Marketing hiring goes wrong in a way sales hiring usually does not. A sales hire either hits a number or does not, and you find out inside two quarters. A marketing hire can look busy and plausible for a year before anyone works out that pipeline has not moved.

That makes the brief harder and the screening more important. The question is rarely whether someone has done marketing before. It is whether they have done this marketing, at this stage, with this much budget and this little support.

The roles we place

Demand generation and growth

Campaign management, paid acquisition, lifecycle and nurture, pipeline accountability. The roles most directly tied to revenue, and the ones where attribution arguments start. We screen hard on whether a candidate has owned a pipeline number rather than a MQL number, because the two produce very different hires.

Product marketing

Positioning, messaging, launch, competitive intelligence and sales enablement. Consistently one of the hardest commercial roles to fill well, because it sits between product, sales and marketing and needs credibility with all three.

Content and brand

Content strategy, editorial, brand development, design leadership. In B2B the strongest content hires are usually the ones who understand the buyer as well as the craft.

Marketing operations

Martech stack ownership, attribution, reporting, data hygiene, campaign infrastructure. Underrated, hard to find, and the hire that quietly makes everyone else in the function more effective.

Marketing leadership

Head of Marketing, Marketing Director, VP Marketing and CMO. The stage question matters most here. A CMO who scaled a business from £20m to £80m is frequently the wrong hire for a company going from £2m to £10m, and the reverse is just as true.

What we screen for

How we work

Every search is personally managed by a founder, not handed to a junior consultant. Every candidate is interviewed before you see them. Shortlists arrive within 48 hours of the brief, and we average 14 days from brief to offer.

We also tell you when the brief is wrong. If the person you have described does not exist at the salary approved, you will hear that in week one rather than week nine. For current market rates across commercial roles, see our UK Sales Salary Guide 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Do you recruit marketing roles as well as sales?

Yes. Psixty UK places sales, marketing and operations talent. On the marketing side that covers demand generation, product marketing, content and brand, marketing operations, and leadership roles from Marketing Manager to CMO.

What marketing roles are hardest to fill in the UK right now?

Product marketing and marketing operations are consistently the hardest. Product marketing sits between product, sales and marketing and needs credibility with all three. Marketing operations requires a mix of technical and commercial understanding that relatively few candidates have.

How do you assess a marketing candidate's results?

By separating what they influenced from what they inherited. Marketing attribution is genuinely difficult, so we screen for candidates who can explain their contribution honestly rather than claiming a revenue number outright.

Should I hire a CMO or a Head of Marketing?

It depends on stage more than scale of ambition. Below roughly 50 headcount, the role usually still requires building things personally, which suits a hands-on Head of Marketing. A CMO who has scaled a much larger business often struggles with the lack of support.

Where do you recruit marketing talent?

Reading, the Thames Valley and London most heavily, and nationwide across the UK. We are based in Twyford, Berkshire.
